Border was Dutta's dream project. He had begun working on the film's script in September 1995 and completed it by April 1996. The film was mostly shot in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Some parts were also filmed in Jodhpur.[3] One of the film's songs, "Sandese Aate Hai", sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, became one of the most popular Hindi songs. The popularity of the song led several directors to offer Nigam for singing in their film's songs. Javed Akhtar wrote the lyrics of the songs while Anu Malik composed them. The song "Mere Dushman Mere Bhai" was sung by Hariharan.[4]

The film opens before the declaration of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. At an FOA (forward operating airbase), Indian Air Force Wing Commander Andy Bajwa (Jackie Shroff) & his air force wingmen soon take off to an unknown airbase in Rajasthan. Once there, he is briefed by his superiors that he and his squadron are assigned to the Jaisalmer sector and have to fly Hawker Hunter Ground attack planes to support the Indian Army. He is soon joined by his brother-in-arms army Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (Sunny Deol) as they meet on a courier flight and speak about the possibility of the opening of the Western front in light of the East Pakistan conflict. Kuldip takes up command of a company of the 23rd Battalion Punjab Regiment (composed of 120 soldiers), arguing about the light defense being assigned to the military post of Longewala. He meets his second-in-command 2nd Lieutenant Dharamvir Singh Bhan (Akshaye Khanna) (who happens to be the son of a 1965 Indo-Pakistani War veteran who was killed during that war) and the Company JCO Naib Subedar Mathura Das (Sudesh Berry). The company moves to a remote outpost in the deserts of Rajasthan and begins to expand the rudimentary Border Security Force (BSF) post and does the observation of the area up to the international border with Pakistan. They meet the company commander of BSF Assistant Commandant Captain Bhairon Singh (Sunil Shetty), a deeply patriotic man who expresses his love for the desert.
As dawn nears, Dastagir orders his remaining men to make a last-ditch attempt to overrun Longewala with their massed assault of tanks and infantry, ignoring the danger of the anti-tank mines. Arming himself with an Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher and a bagful of grenades, Kuldip gathers his remaining depleted men as they make for a suicide counter-attack. Kuldip and his men manage to take down several tanks, killing Dastagir and many of his men in the process. Dawn has broken as Bajwa, and his squadron takes off on their planes to aid Kuldip and his men, destroying more Pakistani tanks in the process. The remaining Pakistani forces are forced to flee away back through the border to their country, thus leaving the Indian military as victors of the battle. Despite the battle being won while more Indian tanks and artillery arrive to fight back against Pakistani reinforcement, Kuldip and his remaining men are distraught over the many deaths of both their comrades and the Pakistani soldiers. The film ends with Kuldip inspecting the aftermath of the battle and the Indian military launching their counter-offensive on the Pakistani military while the news of the deceased soldiers reaches their homes, much to their families' sorrow.
The music of the movie was composed by Anu Malik, while the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar. Songs like "Toh Chalun", "Sandese Aate Hai", "Mere Dushman, Mere Bhai" and "Hamein Jab Se Mohabbat" became memorable.[9] To this day, the songs of the film are not only popular in India, but also in Pakistan.[10] Javed Akhtar won Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist, while Anu Malik was nominated for the Filmfare award for his work in composing the music of this movie.
Prem Pujari is a 1970 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film produced, directed and written by Dev Anand for Navketan Films, his directorial debut.[1] The movie stars Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Shatrughan Sinha, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri and a then-unknown Amrish Puri. It has several popular songs composed and directed by S. D. Burman.[2] The songs were written by Gopaldas Neeraj. The film was a commercial failure.[3] However, the music album is regarded as a masterpiece among classical Hindi film music aficionados, particularly the songs "Shokhiyon Mein Ghola Jaye" sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, "Phoolon Ke Rang Se" sung by Kishore Kumar and "Rangeela Re Tere Rang Mein" sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
The film was shot in Switzerland and has Grimsel Hotel in one of the song sequences. Here, Shatrughan Sinha was picked to play his part from the gathered public. Part of Prem Pujari was also shot at Astagaon near Shirdi in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
The music was composed by S. D. Burman, with lyrics by Neeraj.[4] Several of the songs from the film became popular, "Phoolon Ke Rang Se" sung by Kishore Kumar (music of which was reused by Burman from his earlier Bengali song Borne Gondhe Chonde Geetitey), "Rangila Re Tere Rang Mein" which was a blend of folk and modern and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, "Shokhiyon Mein Ghola Jaaye" by Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar, "Taaqat Watan Ki Hum Se Hai" (patriotic song), and the number in Burman's voice "Prem Ke Pujari Hum Hain". According to Anantharaman, Dev Anand stated that "Rangila Re" remained his all-time Navketan favourite song.[5]
He began hosting the hugely popular TV show, Sa Re Ga Ma in 1995. His song "Accha Sila Diya" for the film "Bewafa Sanam", gave him greater success.[15] In 1997, he sang the patriotic song "Sandese Aate Hai" from the movie "Border" and performed the Nadeem-Shravan-composed song "Yeh Dil Deewana" in "Pardes" in the same year, both of which were highly successful.
His popular songs during this period were "Suraj Hua Maddham" from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... and "Panchi Nadiya Pawan Ke" from the film Refugee, both of which he sang along with Alka Yagnik, "Tanhayee" from Dil Chahta Hai, "Tu Fiza Hai" from Fiza among others. He received his first Filmfare Award for the title song of the film Saathiya, which was composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Gulzar. His biggest success during this period was the song "Kal Ho Naa Ho" from Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. "Kal Ho Naa Ho" earned him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer as well as the Filmfare Award.
2004 onwards, his popular songs include "Main Hoon Na" and "Tumse Milke Dil ka" from the film Main Hoon Na, "Do Pal" from Veer-Zaara, which he sang along with Lata Mangeshkar, "Chup Chup ke" from Bunty Aur Babli, "Pyar Ki Ek Kahani" and "Koi Tumsa Nahin" from the film Krrish, which he sang with Shreya Ghoshal, "Sun Zara" and "Chori Chori Chupke Se" from Salman Khan starrer Lucky: No Time for Love, "Dekho Na" and "Mere Haath Mein" from Fanaa both with Sunidhi Chauhan, "Inn Lamhon ke Daaman Mein" from Jodhaa Akbar, and "Main Agar Kahoon" from Om Shanti Om. In the film Parineeta, he sang four songs with Shreya Ghoshal. His most successful and acclaimed songs during this period were "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna", "Tumhi Dekho Naa" and "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna - Sad Version" from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Javed Akhtar, all of which he sang alongside Alka Yagnik.
He was also the leading playback singer in 3 Idiots, rendering the songs "Jaane Nahin Denge Tujhe", "Zoobi Doobi" and "Aal Izz Well". In the film Kurbaan, he sang the song "Shukran Allah" along with Salim Merchant of the composer duo Salim-Sulaiman and Shreya Ghoshal, which was appreciated.
'Hans Mat Pagli' & "Gori Tu Latth Maar" from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha were well-received as was "Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin" from Meri Pyaari Bindu. Sonu also sang one song in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees named "Halka Halka" but the song was not included in film because of creative reasons. Later the song was released on YouTube.[43]
He then sang the remake of "Badan Pe Sitare" originally sung by his idol Mohammad Rafi for Anil Kapoor starrer Fanney Khan. Sonu revealed that he was first hesitant to render the song because he didn't want to tamper with the original song but Kapoor requested Sonu to sing the classic as he was playing an ardent follower of Mohammad Rafi in the film, which was why he wanted Sonu to give his voice.[45]
Nigam's first song in Kannada was in 1996 for the film Jeevanadhi. The song "Yello Yaro Hego" was composed by Koti with lyrics by R. N. Jayagopal. Nigam has since sung over 600 Kannada songs.[52][53][54][55]
His songs include "Cheluve Yeke Bande", from the film Majnu, composed by Gurukiran; "Titanic Heroine Nee Nanna Cheluve", from the film Snehaloka; the title track from the film Monalisa composed by Valisha Sandeep;[56] "Hamsave Hamsave" from the film Gatti Mela, composed by Hamsalekha, "Kannale Kannale" from the film Aham Premasmi, composed by V. Ravichandran[57] and "Baaninda Baa Chandira, from the movie Kanti, composed by Gurukiran. The 2006 film Mungaru Male created a sensation and spawned several records, mainly in Karnataka.[58][59]
The famous song Do Pal from the film Veer Zaara was shot at the Attari International railway station. This railway station connects India and Pakistan and is a famous spot for cross-border films. In this part of the film, Veer and Zaara are seen drifting away from each other as Zaara has to return home after an adventurous trip to India.
